Swissport International, the leading worldwide airport ground handling company, acquired Groundstar Limited in April 2004.

Swissport UK is one of the largest providers of airport services in the UK market and further expansion is planned at existing and new airports. The UK operation already spans more than seven airports which in volume terms comprise Swissport's second largest national market outside Switzerland.

Full ground handling services are provided by Swissport UK at London Gatwick, London Stansted, Newcastle, Manchester and Birmingham Airports. At London Heathrow and London City airports, activities are Station Management and ticketing.

At Newcastle Airport, Fuel farm management and into plane fuelling are undertaken by Swissport UK subsidiary, Swissport Fuelling Ltd.

Cargo warehousing and handling in the UK is provided by sister company Swissport Cargo Services having dedicated freight facilities at London Heathrow and Manchester Airports.

Swissport UK employs over 2500 staff who form part of a total Swissport workforce of over 20,000 personnel world wide. Swissport International provides ground handling services for over 70 million passengers and 3 million tonnes of cargo on behalf of 600 client companies at 163 airports in 33 countries across five continents.

In 2005 Swissport was voted 'Best worldwide ground handler' for the fifth consecutive year and in June 2006 was named as the Best Global Airport Service Company 2006 by the ITM London.
