091209 - Swissport to provide services to new airline at Gatwick

Swissport UK has been appointed to provide the ground handling services to the newest airline at London Gatwick Airport, United Airways Bangladesh.
The airline provides twice weekly services from the London airport to Dhakar in Bangladesh using an MD83 aircraft. The services began in November.
In addition Viking Airlines, has extended its contract with Swissport at London Gatwick Airport for a further two years from January 2010.
“We are pleased to have started providing services for Gatwick’s newest airline, United Airlines Bangladesh”, Jacqui Crawford, Swissport’s Commercial Director said. “The aviation industry is looking more optimistic, having been through one of the toughest periods in history as the worldwide recession has had a major impact on the sector. Winning new business and retaining existing business, as we have done with Viking, demonstrates that Swissport’s approach is working. We sit down and engage constructively with our airlines so that we are able to continue providing value for money services.”
Swissport has recently restructured its operation and appointed new directors. Operating from new headquarters in Birmingham, the company provides ground handling services at six UK airports: Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Stansted, Heathrow and Gatwick.
